Getting ready for your pool table service
What details help you give me an accurate quote?
Say whether the table is 7, 8 or 9 foot and whether the slate is one piece or three. Give both addresses and describe any stairs, tight turns or narrow doorways on the way in and out. Photos of the table and the route are often quicker than a long description.
Does wet weather affect moving day?
Rain mostly matters at the door and on the path to the vehicle. Let us know if there is a long uncovered walk, a steep driveway or a slippery step, and keep a clear, dry spot inside the entrance free on the day. Ask how the rails and legs will be protected on the way to the vehicle.
My table is in a basement or up a flight of stairs. Is that a problem?
Often it is not, but it changes how the job is planned. Tell us how many flights there are, whether the staircase turns, and how much headroom there is at the landing. A photo taken from the bottom of the stairs is especially useful.
Should I take the pockets or rails off before you arrive?
Please leave the table as it is. Taking parts off without the right tools can split the wood around the bolts or tear the cloth. Just remove the balls, cues and anything sitting on the table.
Will my table play the same after it has been moved?
A table that is reassembled and levelled on its new floor should play as it did before, provided the slate, rails and cushions are sound. If the cloth is worn or the cushions feel dead, that is the moment to talk about recovering, before the table goes back together.
How do I choose where the table goes in the new room?
Measure the room and leave enough space to take a full cue stroke from every side. Check where doors, windows and heating vents are, and avoid a spot in direct sun, which fades cloth over time. Send the room size with your request if the fit looks tight.
